I am not a big fan of shopping. I find the task of strolling store to store on the hunt for something I might like a bit of a time-waster. I am the kind of shopper who flies into a store, grabs a handful of things I need or want and that’s me for another month or two. Usually I purchase 2 or 3 pairs of shoes in the one trip to save me the trouble of having to go shoe shopping again too soon. Same with work attire. Of course if Mum is in town this attitude reverts and I can spend HOURS browsing with her. But then it is more about the company and the chin-wagging than the actual shopping.
Recently however I have discovered online shopping. I am slow off the mark, I know. I find it way less tedious to browse an online store, make my selections, then harass my postie every morning waiting for my treats. Definitely way more my style.
A few weeks ago I started browsing an online store that sells Finnish tableware. I am, and always have been, obsessed with Finnish tableware. And design. Anything Finnish, and I am onto it! So I came across this lovely website. I started browsing and honestly, I had to shut it off as I was so tempted to buy one of everything. I went back on later and purchased a few pretty treats. And they arrived today.

I have quite the collection of Marimekko napkins. Introducing iittala. |
|
Ok this bad boy converted me from a scrawny kid to a very chubby teen. But we have an understanding now. |

Gift for blogging friend wrapped and ready to go. |
iittala is a famous Finnish design company specialising in tableware and homewares products. iittala is especially famous for the glassware designs of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. I have one of his vases. And it is by far my very favourite piece. Being a fan of glass the iittala designs really appeal to me. Scandinavian design at its finest.
Marimekko is synonymous with Finnish textile design. Established in 1951 it was cutting edge with its bright colours and prints and simple designs even back then, and only becomes more popular over time. There is not a Finn on earth that doesn’t love Marimekko. Well maybe one or two, but none that I have ever met! Marimekko is also very popular in the US and Japan. I have spotted Marimekko designs in SATC episdoes, and Jacqueline Onassis was said to be a fan of Marimekko dresses. Love even more!
If you are a fan of Scandinavian design go check them out...if not to purchase, just to swoon!
You're welcome.
Ha ha you mean I may have a new member of online Shoppers Anonymous. I get ya babe - totally!
ReplyDeleteI love online shopping because i can find what I want when I want it - I dont have to wear myself out visiting a million stores to find what I want.
xx :)
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice shopping, my friend.
And all from the comfort of your home sweet home.
:-)
Thanks so much for the mention! We're pleased to hear you're so happy with your purchase!
ReplyDeleteOh Peggy! Have sore cheeks from smiling. You are just so gorgeous. Much swooning going on over here! You're right the iittala pieces are divine and those serviettes are bold and just as beautiful as the unikko - love them. You have fabulous taste.
ReplyDeleteDid I mention that you are just gorgeous! Thank you xox
Yes she is! Is that for me? Oh it is so beautiful and I love the colour but you shouldn't spend your money on me....but I love it:) ....and I've noticed your favourite chocolate. How can you resist not eating it all at once. If I remember wright, you eat a block a day when you were in Finland, hence the chubby cheeks. I have to restrain myself from going on Finnish online shopping...bad news for me, I spend too much on them.
ReplyDeleteSonia, where do I sign up! My goodness, I have just realised I am only waiting on one wee delivery, I need more incoming! Keep an eye on my will ya! ;) xo
ReplyDelete@Shar, definitely very comfortable while internet shopping. I could get very used to this...
You're welcome FinnStyle. I should have mentioned how fabulous your ordering process is and how prompt delivery was. Awesome prices too! I will be back!
ReplyDeleteTeresa you are welcome. Your gift is officially in the mail. I sent it express, Marimekko is not something we wish to wait for! Enjoy lovely. I would love to see a photo of it in situ. :) xo
ReplyDeleteWell Mum I figured since I emptied your cabinets and quickly packed all your Finnish china before you could say no I should buy you your very own iittala piece. You really like it? I got blue especially for you.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, 2 blocks of chocolate. I am eating some now. I don't think I can stop... And chubby cheeks is an understatement! I didn't have much restraint back then. Or now for that matter! xo
I totally get the browsing with your mum. I'm the same when my mum comes to visit and I always spend more money then too.
ReplyDeleteVirginia the browsing, chatting and coffee or lunch with Mum is the fun part. Not so much fun doing it solo hey!
